Tutoring for Adults

Learning doesn’t stop at graduation. Whether you’re going back to college, trying to feel confident speaking English, or finally learning to read and write Arabic, Shater Learning Center in Rancho San Diego works with adult learners at every level and every starting point — patiently, and at your own pace.

In person at our El Cajon center or online over Google Meet, one-on-one or in small groups, with scheduling that works around a job and a family.

Community college & returning students

Heading back to school as an adult is hard enough without fighting a math class alone. We help students at Cuyamaca College and Grossmont College — and anyone returning to education — with the courses that tend to be the roadblocks:

  • College algebra, statistics, pre-calculus, and calculus
  • Placement-test prep so you start in the right course
  • Getting back up to speed after years away from the classroom

No judgment about where you’re starting — just the help to get through the class and keep moving toward your degree.

English for adults — build real fluency

If English is your second language, you don’t have to settle for “getting by.” We help adults — including Spanish speakers and speakers of other languages — become genuinely fluent and confident, for work, for daily life, and for themselves.

  • Conversational English and pronunciation
  • Reading, writing, and grammar
  • Practical English for the workplace and everyday situations
  • Support at any level, from beginner to polishing near-fluent English

Sessions are one-on-one or in small groups, in a supportive, pressure-free setting where it’s fine to make mistakes and learn from them.

Arabic reading & writing

Whether you’re reconnecting with your heritage or starting from the very beginning, we teach Arabic reading and writing — from the alphabet through reading real text and writing with confidence. Open to adults and, if you’d like your children to learn too, to students of all ages.

  • The Arabic alphabet, letter forms, and sounds
  • Reading fluency and comprehension
  • Writing, spelling, and handwriting
